Canada Invites 3,000 Candidates in New Express Entry Trades Draw
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has released details of its latest Express Entry round, targeting skilled trades workers as part of its category-based selection strategy.
The draw, held on April 2, 2026, issued 3,000 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) under the Trades Occupations (Version 3) category. Candidates required a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 477 to receive an invitation.
In cases where multiple candidates had the same CRS score, a tie-breaking rule was applied based on profile submission time, with the cutoff set at February 14, 2026, at 20:53:54 UTC.
Focus on Skilled Trades
This latest round highlights Canada’s continued effort to address labour shortages in key industries by prioritizing skilled trades occupations. Eligible candidates needed at least one year of full-time work experience (or equivalent part-time) within the past three years in a qualifying trade.
Additionally, applicants were required to demonstrate that they:
- Performed the main duties outlined in the National Occupational Classification (NOC)
- Met the lead statement and essential responsibilities of their occupation
Multiple Pathways Included
Invitations in this round may apply to candidates under several Express Entry programs, including:
- Federal Skilled Worker Program
- Canadian Experience Class
- Federal Skilled Trades Program
This flexibility allows candidates with trade experience to qualify through different pathways depending on their background.
What This Means for Applicants
The introduction of updated Trades Occupations categories signals Canada’s growing reliance on targeted draws to fill critical workforce gaps. With a CRS cut-off of 477, this round remains competitive but more accessible than some program-specific draws seen earlier this year.
For candidates in the trades sector, this is a strong indication that industry-specific experience is becoming increasingly valuable in securing permanent residence through Express Entry.
As category-based draws continue throughout 2026, applicants are encouraged to align their profiles with in-demand occupations to improve their chances of receiving an invitation.
