Canada Holds New Canadian Experience Class Draw
By Laura Dickeson, RCIC — Method Immigration
Canada has issued another round of invitations through the Express Entry system, continuing its strong focus on candidates with Canadian work experience in 2026.
On May 27, 2026, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invited 3,000 Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates to apply for permanent residence.
To receive an invitation in this latest draw, candidates needed:
- A minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 518
- An Express Entry profile created before April 30, 2026
This marks the first Canadian Experience Class draw in four weeks and the highest CRS cutoff score seen in a CEC draw so far this year.
Canada Continues Prioritizing Candidates Already in Canada
Throughout 2026, Express Entry draws have heavily focused on candidates already living and working in Canada.
So far this year, IRCC has conducted:
- 11 Provincial Nominee Program draws
- 9 Canadian Experience Class draws
- 5 French-language draws
- Targeted draws for healthcare, trades, physicians, and senior managers
The trend suggests Canada continues prioritizing candidates with:
- Canadian work experience
- Provincial nominations
- Labour market integration
- In-demand occupations
For many temporary residents already working in Canada, this remains an encouraging sign.
CRS Scores Remain Competitive
Although invitations continue to be issued regularly, CRS scores remain highly competitive.
The latest cutoff score of 518 is the highest for a Canadian Experience Class draw in 2026 so far.
Recent CEC draw scores have included:
- 514 on April 28
- 515 on April 14
- 509 on March 31
- 508 on March 17
- 511 on January 7
For candidates with lower CRS scores, provincial nomination pathways such as the BC PNP may continue to provide important opportunities.
More Than 75,000 Invitations Issued in 2026
Canada has already issued more than 75,000 invitations to apply (ITAs) through Express Entry in 2026.
The majority have gone to:
- Canadian Experience Class candidates
- French-speaking candidates
- Provincial Nominee Program applicants
- Healthcare and trades workers
This reflects Canada’s continued effort to address labour shortages while supporting temporary residents already contributing to the Canadian workforce.
What This Means for Temporary Residents
For workers and graduates currently in Canada, maintaining strong immigration profiles remains extremely important.
Factors that may improve competitiveness include:
- Increasing language scores
- Gaining additional Canadian work experience
- Securing provincial nominations
- Improving education credentials
- Exploring targeted occupation pathways
Immigration selection is becoming increasingly strategic, and small improvements can make a significant difference in CRS rankings.
