Extended Work Permit for Eligible International Graduates with PGWP
On April 14, 2021, the Canadian government announced a new policy that allows international graduates with a post-graduation work permit (PGWP) that expires between September 20, 2021 and December 31, 2023, to apply for an extended work permit. This policy allows eligible graduates to stay in Canada and continue working for up to 18 additional months, giving them more time to gain Canadian work experience, which can be valuable for those who are interested in obtaining permanent residency in Canada.
To be eligible for this extended work permit, international graduates must have a valid PGWP that expires on or after January 30, 2021, and they must have completed a program of study at a designated learning institution in Canada. Additionally, they must currently be in Canada and have a valid temporary resident status.
It’s important to note that this policy only applies to international graduates who meet the eligibility criteria. If you have questions about your eligibility or how to apply for an extended work permit, it’s best to consult with an immigration lawyer or a regulated immigration consultant.
