The Federal Skilled Trades Program

What are the language proficiency requirements?

The minimum required score may vary, but it typically falls within the range of CLB (Canadian Language Benchmark) 4 to 5 for speaking and listening, and CLB 4 for reading and writing.

• French Language Proficiency: If you choose to demonstrate your proficiency in French, you can use tests like the Test d’évaluation de français (TEF) or the Test de connaissance du français (TCF). Again, the specific scores required may vary.

It’s important to note that language test results should be recent, typically within the past two years at the time of application. Additionally, meeting the minimum language requirements may not be sufficient to maximize your points under the Express Entry system. Higher language scores can lead to a better ranking within the Express Entry pool, increasing your chances of receiving an invitation to apply for permanent residency.
