IEC Pools open early for 2026
What UK Applicants Need to Know
The Government of Canada has officially opened the 2026 International Experience Canada (IEC) season, creating new opportunities for young people to live and work in Canada. As of now, the IEC pools for the 2026 season are open, meaning eligible candidates can begin creating their profiles in anticipation of upcoming invitation rounds.
For many UK citizens, the IEC Working Holiday category remains one of the most popular and flexible pathways to gain Canadian work experience.
IEC Rounds of Invitations Explained
Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for an IEC work permit are issued through regular rounds of invitations. These rounds continue until all available spots are filled or the IEC season officially closes. The number of invitations issued in each round can vary significantly depending on demand and available quota.
Once a candidate is in the pool, they may receive an invitation at any point after the first round begins for their country.
United Kingdom – Working Holiday (2026 Season)
At present, the following details for UK applicants have not yet been announced by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC):
Quota: To be announced
First round of invitations: To be announced
Final round of invitations: To be announced
Invitations issued to date: To be announced
Spots available: To be announced
Candidates in the pool: To be announced
IRCC has confirmed that these figures will be updated as information becomes available. Historically, IEC statistics are updated weekly, usually on Fridays.
What Happens During the Final Rounds?
IRCC has stated that during the final round of invitations, they aim to invite enough candidates to meet the annual quota. However, additional invitations may still be issued afterward if:
Candidates decline their invitations
Invitations expire without an application being submitted
Work permit applications are refused
In these cases, a small number of additional ITAs may be issued to ensure the quota is fully met. Importantly, IRCC will provide at least five days’ notice before the final round of invitations takes place.
What Should Applicants Do Now?
If you are eligible for IEC 2026, creating a profile early is strongly recommended. Being in the pool as soon as invitations begin increases your chances of receiving an ITA once rounds start for your country.
